According to the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT) website, there are many recreational as well as environmental benefits:  Here's a quick overview of the project that is slated to open next year:

"In 2016, NDOT broke ground on the SR 28 Shared-Use Path and Safety/Stormwater Enhancements project. Thirteen agencies coordinated on this important project that will improve safety, mobility, water clarity and recreational access within the SR 28 corridor."

Among other things, the project will:

· Build a safe shared-use path for non-motorized vehicles to access recreational areas.

· Build and a tunnel underneath SR 28 allowing recreationists to access the beaches by going through the tunnel instead of crossing the busy roadway.

· Build a new safe parking lot that will connect to the shared-use path, eliminating parking along the shoulders of SR 28.
