Top Hikes to Do This Fall in Incline Village, Lake Tahoe

Don't miss Diamond Peak's Summer BBQ & Community Fair (details below!)

Where did everyone go? Yep, it's the beginning of the fall season when our international destination takes on a slower pace during what is, without question, one of the best times to be exploring the High Sierra.

To get you in the mood to head to the Lake, we asked our staff at Sun Bear Realty and Property Management in Incline Village, NV what they like to do on their days off. All offered their insight and all included at least one of their favorite spots to hike within our town or just on the outskirts on the East Shore.

Wherever you go, be sure to take the time to bring home some photos to share on our Facebook and with your friends near and far.

Tahoe Rim Trail

Be it east, west, north, or south, there are trails for the novice to the most advanced. Before you go, download their interactive and printer-friendly trail map. From this point on, you're on to an adventure of a lifetime that is wrapped with some of the most spectacular scenery to be found.

We like to park at the Tunnel Creek Station, grab a hearty lunch to go, and head up the Trail which offers jaw-dropping views of Lake Tahoe. You can go north or south on the trail from this point on. Do note it's a popular trail for mountain bikers so keep your ears and eyes open as you wander in and around the East Shore's magnificent terrain.

Snowflake Lodge & Summer BB@ @ Diamond Peak

Here's another family favorite - and it's an easy one as well. Just park at the base of Diamond Peak and follow the popular Freeway Run to the top. Don't forget a picnic to enjoy at Snowflake Lodge where the sights of the Lake are some of the best to be found!

On Sunday, September 8th, be sure to go to their annual Summer BBQ and Community Fair at the Base Lodge. Will Bill's BBQ will offer a delicious lunch where you can mingle with the locals and check out what's new for the upcoming ski season. In the parking lot, the Washoe County Sherrif's Office will be there to answer any questions you may have ... and don't forget to bring the kids to get a picture with a RAVEN helicopter, SWAT Team and K-9 crew as well!

Summer Last Tracks Hike Diamond Peak

Spinning out of their popular winter Last Tracks program is this new concept for the summer months. Now through the end of September, the resort is offering "Summer Last Tracks"

Here's the scoop from their website:

Participants must be able to complete the 1.5 mile hike (3 miles round trip) and be at least 21 years old. Check-in at the Base Lodge from 4:00pm-5:30pm to sign the waiver and pick up a wristband. Everyone may hike up to Snowflake Lodge at their own pace but the event will begin promptly at 6:00pm. An assortment of cold beverages will be available for purchase prior to the event. The group will hike down after the tasting at 7:30pm. Please note: This is designed as a hiking event, bicycle riders will not be served alcohol at this event. So if you wish to enjoy the wine tasting, please do not ride a bicycle to the event.

Monkey Rock

This is another way to soak up the Sierra sights right here in Incline. The trail name is "Monkey Rock" yet it's actually within access to the Tahoe Rim Trail and Flume Trail as well. It's very popular in the morning where you will see the locals with their dogs of all shapes and sizes along the way. Trail runners and mountain bikers love this trail as well so keep your eyes and ears open for their arrival and quick departures.

Chickadee Ridge

This 2 mile trail is located off the Mount Rose Highway in a section that the locals call "Sheep Flats" where there is ample parking and access to this trail and many other options on which to enjoy. According to AllTrails.com, the course is rated as "moderate" yet we have seen families with young children accomplish this short, scenic trail with no problem at all.

And that short list is just the beginning of the hundreds of trails that wrap in and around the High Sierra. For a complete list, visit and sign-up at AllTrails.com.

No matter where you choose to hike, we encourage you to book your vacation rental or long term rental in Incline Village and Crystal Bay though our real estate and vacation rental agency on Lake Tahoe's North Shore.

Happy Trails!
