Lake Tahoe's Top Distilleries

The Sierra is famous for many natural wonders; it's no wonder that the crystal clear waters of Big Blue have been a vital resource for Lake Tahoe's top distilleries! Our team at our vacation and long-term lease company in North Lake Tahoe hasn't had the opportunity to sip and savor them all, yet we do know that one of the more popular, 72 Mile, was fabricated right here in our hometown of Incline Village!

So, to be fair to the locals, we'll list them first. As for the others, we encourage you to make a (safe) road trip soon to sample the best distilleries in Lake Tahoe!

Cheers!

72 Mile Spirits

First, the name. When one ventures out to drive all the way around the shoreline of Lake Tahoe, you will eventually find out it's ... 72 miles, round-trip. Next, if you happen to stop by the many locations that sell their goods, you will also learn that the family that created these fine options has focused their vision in the right direction. Here is how it's described on their website:

Create a spirit’s brand that the consumer is passionate about, through dedication to environmental improvements that foster a sustainable future in the communities we do business.

ShedCat

This is another down-to-earth local story that is worth the read. First, check out their ABOUT page. It's a great read and sets the tone of how and why they not only offer amazing food, locally sourced but have also entered the spirits business. Their distillery is right on-site in South Lake Tahoe, and their ingredients are homegrown. 100% of the water within their concoctions is from the Lake, they use all-natural ingredients, and every spirit is gluten-free!

Check out all of their options within these well-branded categories: Moutain Lion, Snow Leopard, Big Cat, and The Lynx.

Old Trestle Distillery

As Truckee's first distillery in over 100 years, this creative group is bringing the science and art of distilling back to the Sierra Nevada mountains. Old Trestle began as a group of friends in Truckee, California, who believed that the world's best whiskey had yet to be created. They took lessons from those who came before them and never looked back. Today, they are rooted in whiskey and offer our Gins and Vodka

Their distribution is as impressive as their products. Old Trestle is currently available in select stores, restaurants, bars, and high-end liquor stores in Nevada, Arizona, Texas and California. Find your favorite bottle shop and ask for the goods; if they don't have them, pass on a good word for Old Trestle!

Tahoe Blue Vodka

The leader with the most awards to date has earned every one! As the story goes ... "Tahoe Blue was born after a flash of inspiration: “Why not a Tahoe-themed vodka?” Something as pure, clean, and fresh as the lake itself. It wasn’t the first time Matt Levitt had a big idea; most fizzled out after closer analysis. But the more he thought about this one, the more sense it made. So he dove into the spirits industry to learn all he could," and a fine job he did.

Right out of the bottle, Tahoe Blue Vodka has been winning awards at major spirits competitions. In 2013, the won the Granddaddy of them all: Best Unflavored Vodka in the World at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in New York. To date, Tahoe Blue has claimed dozens of awards and been named best tasting and best in class by various judges.
